Satanic cults? Do they exist?
You always hear those rumors of some devil-worshiping cult that sacrifices babies and virgins, but have you really ever known of a true one? I mean that actually worships and bows down to the "devil"? Some ppl associate this with Wiccans/witchcraft, but I know thats not what they are about. I’m sure it could be taken to the dark side, but I don’t know anyone who has. Really, do you think there really are ppl who are in a satanic cult? And I don’t want to hear the ‘christian’ answer about witchcraft, cause my mind is made up on that subject, they worship everthing, mother earth, nature, so on…peaceful religion, unlike christianity and most others. I am not wiccan myself, I’m not sure what I believe. Just want to know what you feel about devil cults? Do they really exist? Have you ever seen the proof? If you believe the devil exists at all? All religions please answer.
the church of Satan was founded by Anton lavey in 1966 and he is also the author of the satanic bible (which i own). they do in fact worship and practice acts that are associated and involved with the devil that are similar to those practiced in which craft. it is a wide misconception that they promote evil and murder and sacrifice. while the satanic bible does show you how to "sell" your soul to the devil and how to call to the devil for guidance, satanism is more about self expression and not conforming to the normals of other organized religions. i am not a satanist, but i do be live that there is evil out there.

Edit: Praise Jesus – Just so you know, most wiccans and such understand that there is a balance between light and dark, good and bad in the world. While this isn’t right in some people’s mind’s, it is necessary. You can’t have compassion without suffering, you can’t have kindness without someone doing something bad to instigate it. That is the way of it. And as a pagan, I believe in God, just not the jealous, murderous, cruel, selfish being the Bible makes him out to be.

There is a real Church of Satan. I seriously doubt they sacrifice anything except their sanity, but they do exist. Aside from a main church in California, their "branches" are a well-guarded secret, not because they are really doing anything illegal, I think they want to prevent property destruction, plus it makes them feel real cool and "out of the mainstream", just like kids who shop at Hot Topic!

Yes, there are groups of people who are Satanists.They worship the devil, but they do not wish people harm like many people think. I have read that there is some element of sacrifice, maybe an animal of some kind but I don’t really think there are people that sacrifice babies or virgins. But that being said, there are always going to be people out there who are extreme, they are just like any other cult/religion and if people brain washed enough they will do anything.

My grandma is psychic and a couple years ago she got involved with a murder case and she told them where the girl was, but they wouldn’t listen to her, so they didn’t find the girl in time, but it was around Halloween and she had premonitions that she says were from god about her being sacrificed, and it was true a satanic cult were going to sacrifice her because she got involved with their business. It’s a very dangerous thing to mess with.

I saw a video last night that made me think of that. Not sure if any of you have seen it but it took place in Tokyo. Chick who went in for some injury was tied up in the hospital and rape by one of the 3 freaks that was filming the whole thing. This other lday began chopping her leg fragment by fragment before the poor girl woke up screaming in pain. Then the one lady took the victim’s tongue out to quite her down and attempted 3 kinds of tools to destroy her tongue., After that it goes back to chopping the poor girl up. Not sure if these were cults but if this is the kind os crap they pull then OMG!

A few years back it was suspected that we had one locally. A bunch of country churches had been ransacked and even a few graves had been approached. The authorities eventually caught a gang of kids who all admitted to their stupid crimes and most actually cried on the local news over the whole thing! LOL Big tough devil worshipers!
Personally I believe that some cults might exist but in those extreme cases where the members destroy things that don’t belong to them – are not true "believers" in anything. They are just a bunch of losers with too much time on their hands.

My opinion on the devil….
I do not believe the Devil sucks you down into a hell hole and tortures you like in the movies. If you were tortured like that, it seems like that would be your punishment for not obeying God. Why would the Devil punish you for not obeying God? Doesn’t make sense. The Devil would want you to stay loyal to him, so he wouldn’t torture you.
My personal opinion is when you die, you die. I wish I didn’t believe that, but I do.

To an extent they do exist. when you think of satanic cults, you think virgin sacrifice etc. but in actual fact that doesnt always take place. there are many satanists living among us who you would probably take for ordinary people – but thats the thing, they are. We have our religion, whatever that may be, they have theirs. They just worship satan.
Its mainly catholic extremists spreading these rumours about sacrificing because they want t turn people off the religion because as shown through the ages, catholicism is a one minded dominating religion who have killed to convert.;

Lots of questions there. OK. I’m Pagan. Been around a long time and never seen a Witch/Pagan sacrifice anyone. Pagans are not Satanist. Satan is a Christian concept. There is a Church of Satan, but they don’t harm anyone, it’s more a philosophy than anything.
If a person can imagine something, chances are somebody has tried it. So I expect somewhere there’s a group of idiots who do stupid or dangerous thinhgs and claim it’s for Satan. But I’m pretty sure the police just round them up along with any other criminal.

It is a FACT that for everything good, there is an equal and opposite bad. For every belief, there is one completely opposite of it and so on.
OF COURSE there are people who believe in Satan or "The Devil", and they have built a belief system based on what they believe Satan is all about! They get together in groups, "worship", and follow certain guidelines just as any other organized group of fanatics do.

The two above people are not answering this question accurately. You asked a question that involves two separate parts. You asked if there were people who worship the "devil" and then referred to them as cults. First, let me define the word cult, as taken from http://www.dictionary.com.

Now, any religion can fall prey to cults. The truth is that cults are usually based on a distorted version of the christian god because the only way you can convince a bunch of people to live under the control of another is if they first believe that they are under control by their own deity. Satanists in general believe that they are their own deity. Which means that they believe that they should put their own needs first (not in a selfish way) but as in being responsible for themselves and that if everyone did this, charity would not be needed. True Satanism is based on Humanism. The term Satanism was coined by Anton LaVey and it was simply his way of defying the christian church and to separate his ideas from those of christianity. He also hoped that the "shock value" of the term would wake people up to the "sheep mentality" (as he put it) that they were all used to.
There are some that claim to actually worship a deity that they refer to as "Satan" and by doing this they are bastardizing all that Anton LaVey taught. The Church of Satan was founded by Anton LaVey, so anyone who claims to worship any devil IS NOT a part of the Church of Satan and would be liable if they made such claims. So the person who answered by referencing the Church of Satan clearly has no idea what she is talking about and should read a bit more before answering questions.
Because The Church of Satan encourages free will and pretty much demands that you think for yourself, it is impossible for them to be a cult. Now anyone can take any religion and create a cult based on it. Does that mean that that religion is a cult? Of course not! The Branch Davidians were clearly a cult (founded and led by David Koresh in Waco Texas) and were former members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. That denomination is still active and had no affiliation with the Branch Davidians.
So cults can stem from any religion or path. But to label that path as a cult is irresponsible. Satanic cults can exist just as a christian cult could exist or a mormon cult could exist. All you need for a cult is for a charismatic leader to convince some followers to do their bidding. But in the sense that anyone who is a Satanist is in a cult? No, that is pure media hype.

There are clowns who go around claiming to be "Satanists" who wear the mantle just to tick off the Christians.
The three boys held in prison are known as the West Memphis Three…teens (at the time) who were accused of the murder of three eight year old boys based on no evidence beyond the fact that they listened to Heavy Metal music, read Stphen King novels, and wore black t-shirts.
As for the "Church of Satan", from what I’ve seen about them the whole thing seems to be an elaborate excuse for indulgence.
There was a huge scare in the mid-eighties over "Satanic Ritual Abuse" that was started by an over-zealous Christian psychologist who became convinced that one of her patients had suffered at the hands of her family…and that abuse "had" to be part of a satanic rite of some kind. Somehow the phenomenon caught fire and fear spread across the country. People hypnotized by well-meaning but heavily biased "researchers" started "remembering" absolutely monstrous treatment by various people in their lives. Accusations flew and people’s lives were ruined.
And there wasn’t a scrap of evidence to be found to support any of it.

I know a couple therapists who specialize in treating people with dissociative identity disorder (DID), more popularly known as multiple personalities. DID develops as a reaction to severe abuse, usually in very young girls. Both therapists firmly believe in something called Satanic Ritual Abuse involving children. They say this is very pervasive in our society, and involves people in the highest levels of business and government. Personally, I think they’re full of crap. I can’t imagine that something this huge could fly under the radar of the press and the web for long. However, this is coming from two intelligent, educated people, so I’m putting it out there.

About 15 years ago, near a small neighboring town, warrants finally issued to go to this acreage. People left night before. Evidence of many sacrafices of people’s pets that had disappearred throughout several townships. The Animal Shelter manager found the Probable Cause for the Police to get the warrant, although too late for the animals and arrests.
I believe God exists; I believe Satan exists.
I believe in treating animals and people the same way I wish to be treated, even if they had done harm to me. Revenge would just put me in ‘their’ category; I want to stay in ‘mine’.
